Wooden wedding lanterns

My daughter asked if I could make her a couple wooden lanterns for a beach wedding. I looked a couple designs up on line a decided to go with my own version. The biggest difference is I prefer to work in hard woods rather than pine. Since it was such a small yet important project I decided on Wenge and maple. The goal is for her to use them in her house as decoration after the wedding.

    • The overall size is  7" x 7" x 15" plus the hook.  They weight about 6 lbs each empty.  I'm glad they decided against the shepherd's hook idea of hanging them.  I'm not sure they would have held up in the sand.  Honestly the hardest part was the glue up.  Lining up the up end grain glue up was not easy.  I didn't trust them to last without the dowel pegs to hold them.  No nails, no screw.  Just pegs and glue.

  • I really like the wenge and maple.   I bet these look great wherever your daughter puts them. Looks like a fun project.
