We needed a place for our TV in our mobile home where there is not that much floor space. When the mobile home was built, there was a open bar top between the kitchen and living room. I was unable to remove the bar top as it was holding the kitchen counter in place. So I added cabinets to the kitchen (another project) and built the TV/Shelf unit. Adjustable shelves, the TV moves in and out, side to side, Beneath the TV behind sliding glass doors are multiple electrical, ethernet, phone and cable outlets so all the DVD, cable sound system equipment is behind glass concealed but the remotes work great.
