My wife's dog kept getting into the trash can. I could have done things the normal way and just bought a dog-proof trash can; but that wouldn't do for me - I had to take this as an opportunity to make something on my own. I figured that, while I was at it, the cabinet could do with a drawer, too. There's never enough drawer space around my house. I used a set of ball-bearing drawer slides to make it feel smooth and professional. I just used plywood, but I decided to trim the top surface with some strips of black walnut for contrast (read: because I could).
