My son wanted a stand for his phone. Once we made it, he wanted another one for this tablet. We experimented a bit and came up with this. The stand has a thin and thick slot to accommodate different sized devices, and can be used to hold devices with and without their protective cases.
Since we made these they have invaded all areas in our home. They work well in the kitchen for looking up recipes and throughout the house for watching Ryobi Nation videos. Several of my family have these at their bed stand, allowing them to use their phone as an alarm clock.
This is great project for using up workshop scraps, or if you want to make a bunch of them for gifts, you can make 12 of them from a 6 foot 1 x 4.
