I recently got a bunch of old doors from my friends barn. I wanted to make a bench, but also have my own unique twist to it. So I came up with this design, that has a locking cupboard underneath it, that locks with it's original skeleton key. Also, could be used as a small gun cabinet, since it locks. I'm really happy with the outcome.

  • This is really nice man. I like how you included the original door knob with a cupboard. This is the first I've seen done this way. I always look forward to seeing what you make next. Great work!!

    • Thanks! Ever since I made this one, I have loads of people asking for one. I thought the cupboard underneath would give it a unique look.

  • This is fantastic. It's cool to see the progression of the project through the pictures. The extra distressing on the bench's seat adds a really great element of authenticity too. Beautiful work, as always!

    • Thank you! When I sanded it, I tried to make the seat look like it had a lot of butts sit on it over the years..haha.

  • I agree with RobertsonS.. Your benches are beautiful. Usually everyone who makes a door bench, makes the seat flip up for storage. What you did by adding the original knob and cupboard underneath, is by far the coolest one that I have seen. I want one!! Well done! :)

    • Thank you! I figured since it was a bench made from a door, might as well add all the elements. I also didnt make the back as high as a tree hall bench. It gave it a different stance as well.

  • Are their plans for this ? I would love to build one for my home .

    • I don't really have any plans for it. Basically you need (2) 5 panel doors. Cut all the panels out, and then start piecing together. The pictures should help in how the pieces all come together. Everything I build, is basically a build as you go type of thing. No plans.. :)

    • You will need a 2x12 for the seat though
