Kitchen island bar top and stools

We needed a kitchen island and decided to add a bar top and make the stools. We recycled the pipes from an old rolling cart and recycled wood joists that we reclaimed from the 120 year old brick house that caught fire next door. We had to trim all the boards with the table saw then planed them to make them even and remove the charring, revieling gorgeous wood underneath. Additionally, we spray painted the pipes and applied a clear coat. We are very satisfied with result and can't wait to finish the concrete countertop for the island to replace the temporary malamite top that is pictured.

  • You did a great job on this project. It's really amazing that you were able to salvage the antique wood in spite of fire damage. You really saved some beautiful material. Can't wait to see the concrete counter top!

  • The countertop is complete, so happy to have the kitchen completely done. Being our first concrete project and all the trial and error it took about a month. Check it out here: https://www.ryobitools.com/nation/projects/kitchen-island-and-contrete-counter
