We installed cabinets for a much needed island but didn't want to try to match countertops with what we had. We decided to give concrete a try. It was a lot of trial and error, this was the fourth attempt before I felt like I got it right. I filled in all the air holes with a slurry mix, let it cure, sanded it, and repeated three times. Finally we stained it with malasian buff and coffee acid stain from directcolors.com then applied a Rust-Oleum gloss sealer. We are very satisfied with the results, I almost gave up on it but happy I didn't.
