We had an armoire in the living room to house a 32" TV, stereo components, DVR, DVD player and all the wiring for all of it. We wanted a larger flat panel TV, so we had to get something that would hold everything. Instead of buying something, I decided to design and build something that would mount a 49" flat screen TV, hide all the wires, but make them accessible any time I wanted to change something. The idea was to have the entertainment center swing away from the wall, so the unit had to be light enough to swing, but sturdy enough to hold all the components. The shelf section has a trimmed cloth front door that allows the components to be covered, but the remote control will work through it. When you want to open the cloth front, it is held by two magnetic catches. The inspiration for the color and style was an industrial cart type table we already had in the living room. I have the swing away façade part pinned with a nail, and you just pull the pin out to open the unit and get to the wires.
