This derby walking cane with sassafras shaft and 300-year-old curly maple handle resulted from me needing a cane for several months and not liking any of the medical-grade ones available.
-- Tools used Bandsaw, Router, Drill press, Several carving knives, and sandpaper.
-- Finish on both is hand-rubbed shellac, the colors and depth are amazing.
-- Handle is made of two pieces, procured as drop scrap from an instrument maker shop.
-- Shaft was found many years ago far out on a nature hike when, well, a tall walking stick was needed and it has been cut down and repurposed here.
-- With my hand strength diminished this took longer than it should have, for me it was therapy. :-)
-- I don't normally take pictures and even here I don't have many.
