Back Yard Oasis

Last year we built a deck, after a year with it we decided there were several changes we wanted to make so it would be more functional. It was three levels so we raised the lowest to match the other two and added lattice to keep the dogs from playing under it. The old fence wasn't to code, wasn't level and the 4 foot tall section wasn't keeping the huskies contained. We rebuilt 2/3 of the fence, made sure the pickets were level this time and added lattice above the fence around the deck. The raised garden bed we made last year literally fell apart. We built a greenhouse to replace it and to keep the squirrels from stealing our crop. Finally after having nothing but dirt in the yard we laid sod and put a temp fence around it to keep the dogs off it for a few weeks. It's been an exhausting month but we couldn't be happier. We reused as much of the existing materials and there is still a lot of staining that has to be done so everything matches. Once the house next me is further along the rehab and I can access the other side of the rest of the fence I am going to rebuild that side to match.

  • This was quite an undertaking! The look of this space is so cool- full of interest and so many different kinds of living areas. It's got a very New Orleans feel. Love it!
