Our goal was to create a space outside that allowed our dog to be outside while we're gone or before we wake up - with doggie door access - but also where we can grow some garden vegetables protected from wildlife, mainly . We built an 8x8 fenced area, with an outside access door. We put in two simple water troughs for the fish and grow bed, and built a hugelkulture vegetable bed for more produce since we were new to aquaponics. For the water to flow, we cut a groove out of the top water trough with the 18v angle grinder/cutting wheel (cut like butter!) so it could spill over. It's now spring and the plants are starting to really come in! Some are even producing!

  • Great Job, the project looks like it turned out awesome!  glad your getting good results, I was worried that the sheet metal would hinder light displacement and not allow enough for the plants to grow.  I am thinking this is a good idea for a lot of people out there with deer problems but maybe instead of corrugated metal using clear plastic panels.
