You need to swap the shelf #1 and #2 dimensions in the attached drawing. 83-1/4" and 41-1/4" dimensions are wrong. Have a look :)

Just a suggestion, you might want to replace the USB connector Type A receptacle to the more standard (on this type of item) Micro-B or Mini-B. That way you could use standard chargers and cables, rather than a Type-A to Type-A cable (which isn't all that common in the charging world.)... Anyway, great design, and I love the "simulated" frosted glass.

An option to try would be Samtec: http://suddendocs.samtec.com/catalog_english/scrus.pdf They are a bit pricey (a bit? LOL), but you could also use their wording to do Google searches to maybe find cheaper versions from someone else.

No question is a dumb question, right? So why this step: To give the polycarbonate sheet a frosted look, simply sand one side with an orbital sander until you get an even scuff across the entire sheet. Thanks for a much better option than the one I cobbled together with what I had on hand.

That is a great idea. I have been wanting a light box and this will be just the thing. I do a lot of adult coloring and was trying to come up with a way to color with out the outline showing and this is just the thing.

This seems like an awesome piece to have, and i would love to have it in my room.. But am i mistaken, or wont the the section where the false bottom meets the wall actually be preventing it from Fully opening up.. Because this is supposed to be flush up against the wall correct? grantwolter: istuke is correct, the hinge point location in fact causes the bottom back corner to swing up and away from the wall. This is good because the hinge is hidden and the side of the shelf seems to butt up against the wall.

On the "Secret Shelf". A beautiful project with one problem. The small pictures chop off all the important measurements, and the enlargements, which have the measurements, won't print. How about putting all the dimensions on the small pictures so they can be copied?

Just looking at the cut list....if you rip 1/8" off of the 10" width, wouldn't that be 9-7/8". Just wondering if that is a typo or the actual length?

This was a great project! My 2-year-old absolutely loves the finished piece and I had a lot of fun building it. For anyone else thinking about doing it, I highly recommend it, but here are some things I learned:

1- I bought very inexpensive whiteboard from Home Depot. It's fine, but if I could do it again I would likely buy something a little nicer.

2- The link to buy the tubs wasn't working, but I found them at Target. I imagine different tubs would work, but only if you adjust your measurements on the actual table. These plans are very accurate and if you get the exact tubs, it will all fit perfectly.

3- I definitely recommend water-sealing the table if you don't use Cedar. Our table got thoroughly wet after only a few minutes of play time.

You could still use it as a place to park phones, maybe even set up a charging station. I occasionally miss having the phone tethered to the wall, because that way you could at least always find it. Nice little table.

How do you think this would turn out if different hinges were used? I'd rather not pay close to $50 a pop for the hinges. Maybe two or three smaller hinges for each one?

My son gave me a gift card and plans for garage organization. This fit perfectly into our goals. This was SUCH a fun project to do together. I have never tackled something like this before. We had our local Home Depot cut the plywood and peg board for us. We bought a portable Ryobi table saw and a Kreg jig -- so satisfying to learn to use these tools safely and build something so great!

Great project. Whats the measurements of the dado cuts? How far down on the side panels were they cut? It looks like the 2 1/2 framing bracket connects to the side panels ( 12 X 36) above the dado cuts.

I am using the best finished plywood. Real smooth looking..cut all materials yesterday and will do the Dado cuts (will be using a router for this job). Peg board at home depot was 3/16 so I will have to make slight adjustments to certain areas. Pictures will follow no later than tomorrow I hope.

I started putting this together and noticed that the cut list calls for 5 7/8" wide dividers but with a 1/4"x1/4" dado the plants call for they actually need to be 6 1/4" wide.

Could some plywood be added to hide the pegboards? I have to compromise with the wife because she thinks the tools showing on the pegboards looks cluttered. We currently use our garage part gym and part woodworking/project station so we want to make it look as pleasing to the eye as possible. Although I like the look of the pegboards showing I do have to work with the wife.
