This farmhouse style ladder is the perfect size to display seven of your favorite 4 x 6 photos. Using curtain rod clips allows you to change out the photos whenever you like. Or chose to make the ladder bigger to hold larger photos or use it to display linens and blankets.
-
Step: 1
Cut the 8’ long 2 x 2 in half crosswise. You now have the two 48” sides (or legs) of the ladder. Cut the dowel rod into 8” pieces for the rungs of the ladder.
-
Step: 2
Drill 1/2” deep 1/2” wide evenly spaced holes in one side of each of those two leg pieces. I used a Forstner bit in the RYOBI Drill Press.
-
Step: 3
Place all of the dowel rods in one leg. Use wood glue and tap into place with a rubber mallet.
-
Step: 4
Lay second leg across ends of dowels and tap into place.
-
Step: 5
Paint or stain as desired. Once dry, attach the clips and hang photos. I chose to paint my ladder black as I believe the photos will really “pop” against the dark ladder.
-
Step: 6
I also made a second larger ladder using 1 x 2” for the legs and a 1” dowel for the rungs.
-
Step: 7
For this larger ladder, I drilled the holes all the way through the leg pieces. Then I tapped in the dowels until they were flush with the outside of the legs. I did not need to use wood glue since the dowels fit into the holes snugly.
-
Step: 8
I am using this larger ladder to hold linens for now. But it could also be used to display larger photos. In fact, I’ll be using it at Christmastime to display photos from Christmas’ past - I might even paint it red!
