This DIY modern deck chair is an easy-to-make lounge chair that is great for outdoors and only requires 2 power tools. This design is made out of 2x12s and ¾” pine boards and is a great project for beginners. I only used a circular saw and a drill to make this outdoor lounge chair but a compound miter saw and jig saw could be used instead.
CUT 2x12s TO LENGTH I cut two pieces of a 2x12 48 inches long. This can be done with a circular saw or compound miter saw.
CUT CORNER TO CORNER I drew a line corner to corner on the pieces of 2x12 and then cut along the line with a circular saw. I did this to both pieces to make 4 triangular pieces.
TRIM THE ENDS I measured in 3 inches from the end and then drew a line to the corner. I then cut along this line with a circular saw. I did this to all four pieces.
TRIM THE OTHER ENDS I measured in from the ends and then drew a line at 45 degrees with a speed square. I made two seat pieces and two back pieces.
SCREW TOGETHER I measured in 18 inches and screwed the back pieces to the seat pieces.
ADD SUPPORT PIECES I screwed in two 12 inch long pieces of 2x4 to the back pieces using 3-inch long deck screws.
SCREW ON THE SEAT BOARDS I cut pieces of 2-1/2” x 3/4” pine boards long enough to overhang each side by 1/2”. I then used stainless steel finish screws to fasten the boards to the frame. I pre-drilled holes to prevent splitting.
